The Woman Who Captures ‘The Future You’
The Woman Who
‘The Future You’
I’ve worked with a huge number of speakers, coaches and consultants over the years, and the most successful all seem to have one thing in common…
One of their worst fears is being called ‘mediocre’.
Unremarkable, forgettable, pedestrian, garden-variety, even ‘pretty good’…
Whatever you call it, ‘average’ marketing that looks like everyone else’s is both not what they want AND is DOOMED to fail.
People like you and I know that to succeed, we have to embrace who we really are and find a unique way of showing it.
We know that middle-of-the-road is only a good place to be if you’re looking to get hit by an 18-wheeler.
Forget conformity, it’s time to make your uniqueness a competitive advantage.
Baby, you’re a firework…and it’s time to show it!
And as I always say ‘you just gotta ignite the light and let it shine, just own the night, like the Fourth of July’…
or maybe that was Katy Perry…
Hey there! I’m Louise Williams and I help speakers, coaches and consultants like you break through dull, lifeless marketing using the power of your awesome personality and my camera (oh, and my bag of tricks from my former life as a psychologist. More on that later…)
I work with people like you – majestic eagles ready to fly rings around their pigeon competition. You’re ready to own and grow into your potential. You thumb your nose at the status quo and go in your own direction. You’re truly a rare breed, and you NEED marketing that reflects your high-flying status.
If you’ve answered yes to any of the above, then you’ve just found your happy place.
Before I became a photography and personal strategy whizz, I had a long, interesting (understatement alert!) career as a psychologist.
I worked in research facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation centres and even a maximum-security men’s prison (yup, you read that right!). I spent years talking to people, learning how to create a safe environment where they could reveal their true self and open up completely. No judgement, only support.
I take the skills that I spent those years honing as a psychologist to create photographs that act as a stepping stone to something I like to call…
What if your photos were able to actually capture and represent the kickass person you imagined and can FEEL in your gut? You know, the stage-storming, prolific-podcasting, client-collecting unicorn that’s inside of you, who’s literally DYING to come out.
What if, simply by taking those photos of the ‘future you’, it helped you BECOME that person?
If you had the photographic evidence IN YOUR HANDS that you could be the type of person who speaks on stages around the world, the most in-demand badass in your industry, with a multi-million dollar business to boot…
Then you might as well become that person right?
When we team up and I physically put those photos in your hands, you’ll be able to SEE the person you’re going to become with your own eyes.
It’s like hopping in a DeLorean with Doc and Marty McFly and seeing the success you’ve become – You’ll FINALLY believe it.
All those things that you believed you could do? Suddenly you KNOW you can do them. And what’s more? You WILL do them.
The ‘Future YouTM’ is what sets me apart.
Other photographers may do a relatively ‘nice’ job, but they don’t know how to dig deeper to show your full potential. They just don’t have the skillset to carefully brush away the facade that you’ve spent years building, to encourage the real you to the surface and capture you in all your unique, breath-taking glory (and yes, I am talking about you… if you don’t feel the same now, you WILL when we start our work together.)
Louise Williams is far more than a passionate photographer. She is an alchemist, drawing on almost magical skills to get the best out of her camera, with client outcomes that are nothing short of extraordinary. The very best creative artist I’ve ever worked with.
School can be tough for everyone, but for an introvert like me it was a daily battle. I looked to others to validate me, and when they didn’t I became reluctant to share who I really was. Art became my escape, and I immersed myself completely.
This is where it first dawned on me that we can only step into who we truly are when we’re able to be honest with ourselves and others in a safe, trusting environment. I explored all my edges (you know, our funny bits that make us delightfully different) and embraced my playful, whimsical side -something I vowed to never hide again!
After graduating with a Psychology degree, I entered the working world as a psychologist. I was like a young, ambitious-but-naive Clarice, but fortunately not a fava bean or a Hannibal in sight (plenty of chianti though!) And my first role? A maximum security men’s prison in Brisbane. Scary? Yes. Demanding? Yes. But it gave me the opportunity to stress-test all the academic theories I’d been taught, in an unforgiving environment with real consequences. I felt the pressure to tone down and hide my personality (I know, hypocrite!), so I activated my invisibility cloak (perhaps you have one, too?). I saw what happens when we hide who we are, and felt the negative effects myself.
Wanting to put the feather in my cap and prove to myself and others that I was the biggest thing in psychology since Freud (I joke, of course… I’m a Carl Jung fan through and through), I graduated from the University of Queensland with a Masters of Organisational Psychology. I began work as a psychologist in workplace rehabilitation and then in employee assistance counselling.
I opened my own private psychology practice in Brisbane, which as we all know, is every young girl’s dream right? (HA! Not really!). Before long it was booming and I was busier than ever helping my clients. It seemed like a career as a lifelong psychologist was well on-track, but no matter how well things were going, I had a creative itch that I just couldn’t scratch.
Through my Expressive Therapies Certification I began a fascinating dive into Jungian Psychology (the theory that our past experiences and our future aspirations combine to influence our behaviour). Bringing together our conscious and unconscious helps to unmask the real and raw version of ourselves that we don’t always show to the world – it’s an unmasking, of sorts. It’s safe to say that I love delving into therapies like Symbol Work, Sandplay and Music Therapy.
My private practice was thriving, but with seven clients a day I was burning out fast. It was supposedly everything I’d been working for over the last decade and still it wasn’t enough. As a creative outlet I decided to pick up a DSLR camera and take up photography, beginning with the standard fare – weddings, babies, families, couples and events. Being a photographer was great, and not just because they’re the only ones who can get away with flashing in public. Yeah, I said it!
You know that event that changes your future forever? Well in 2010 I decided not to renew my psychologist registration and made a huge leap of faith – I was all-in with photography. Time and time again, I’ve learned that accepting who you really are and following your heart leads to enormous successes and fulfilment… although hiding feels safe at the time, it’s actually more harmful in the long-run. (Hint hint, nudge nudge)
After being named as a Top 3 finalist for Illustrative Photographer of the Year in Queensland and taking home Gold and Silver awards at WPPI (International), I had to have major surgery and took a six-month hiatus to recover. During this period, I went through my old psychology paperwork and rediscovered the Jungian symbols I had loved so much. My husband suggested I incorporate them into my photography work and everything clicked. If I had to pick one moment of complete alignment in my life it would be this one. I realised that I could combine my years of experience as a psychologist with my photography and brand strategy services, and create something that was waaaaaay bigger than the sum of its parts.
The deeper purpose I gained from combining my two careers began generating results. My clients were getting more and more recognition – the shots I had taken were being used regularly on magazine covers and features. It was amazing to see all their fantastic achievements and I felt like a proud mama! My photos also led to two Silvers and one Silver Distinction at the AIPP National Photography Awards. I was also honoured to have the opportunity to co-author three books with inspiring, beautiful women in a series focused on gratitude, love and intuition.
Disneyland’s got nothing on my ‘Studio of Magic’… that’s what I call my custom-designed studio in my home in Brisbane. It’s fully kitted out with everything to make you feel at home. I created it specifically to be a safe bubble where you can relax, let down your guard, and brainstorm and play with different options for your business and personal life. There’s no judgement here – it’s your time to throw off all ‘normal’ expectations of who you are and capture ‘the real you’.
When the world changes this much in such a short space of time, what are we to do? We’re all searching for answers in a swirling storm of uncertainty. I believe that to come out of this year stronger, It’s crucial that you’re able to connect authentically on a deeper level with people. I completely, 100% believe in my bones that there’s never been a more important time to be the real you than right now. Now it’s time to make a choice – are you going to remember this year as a disaster, or the year you plucked up the courage to show the world the real you, in all your magnificence?
And that’s my story so far. I have the best life… I get to reveal unicorns like you to the world, each and every day.
